Who Else Wants More Quality Family Time?
The busy mom in this story vowed to herself to be more present and spend more “fully engaged” time with her children because, in her words:
“If I want my kids to remember me being WITH them, present and having fun rather than remembering me with my nose in my phone, I need to get serious.”
To celebrate her son’s birthday
We built a Family Lifestyle photography session around all the activities they planned for the day, starting with Nerf battles at a crossfit gym, all the way through reading bedtime stories at the end of an awesome phone-free family day.
In this photo story, we’ll take a look at how much fun “getting serious” can be.
The day started in a crossfit gym…
This is an example of the genius of ulterior motivated mamas.
Mom: “Hey kids, let’s have a party at crossfit and have lots of fun doing an obstacle course!”
Kids: “YAY!!!”
Mom: “YAY!!! Let them run themselves to exhaustion so I can take a nap later!”
After letting the kids burn off some energy with a few rounds of running the obstacle course, it was time to Nerf up!
And it was time for mom to get serious!
All the moms and dads jumped into the fray…
And then we had cupcakes!
Dad teaching the birthday boy how to tie his shoes. This memory is going to mean everything to this little guy when he’s his dad’s age.
After the crossfit party
We went home for a pit stop before heading to the pool.
What better weekend for mom to put the phone away than when her sister and niece were in town visiting?
While we were waiting for some of the others to get changed, this little impromptu dance between cousins happened.
Note the enthusiasm on the birthday boy’s face!
He wasn’t quite as excited about his little cousin’s visit as his baby brother was.
As funny as it is now, this image is going to be hilarious thirty years from now.

It’s funny how boys and girls see things differently
This is what the girls had in mind for a day at the pool.
And this is what the boys had in mind!
I guess the boys win!
Mom accomplished what she set out to achieve
As I wrote at the beginning: Mom had vowed to be more present and spend more “fully engaged” time with her children because, in her words: “If I want my kids to remember me being WITH them, present and having fun rather than remembering me with my nose in my phone, I need to get serious.”
Mom was fully present in a day full of fun activities with her family, and her phone was fully absent.
And not only did mom get to participate, she got to be in the pictures, too.
These are precious family memories of her kids’ childhood that she captured for them forever.
